Multiple MotoGP World Champion Valentino Rossi claimed that it would be "stupid" for anyone to rule out Marc Marquez in the 2015 title race, despite struggling at the start of the season.
The Spaniard is currently 65 points behind Rossi, sitting him on the fourth spot in the world ranking. If compared to his successful run last year, Marquez is five victories short of his seven wins at the same stage in 2014.
Repsol Honda's 22-year-old driver has ended his winless streak in the German MotoGP at Sachsenring earlier this month, which makes Rossi believed that he can still put up a great fight and catch up with standings.
"We don't want to make the stupid mistake of thinking that Marquez can't win the championship," said championship leader Rossi.
"Now he is quite far behind, but he will be very strong.
"I think there are three tracks coming up after the break where Marc is particularly strong; Indianapolis, Brno and Silverstone."
The 36-year-old Italian will be looking for his seventh championship after falling short and being the runner-up last season. He already has 179 points, followed by his Yamaha teammate Jorge Lorenzo with a 13-point difference.
Rossi will confidently head to the final nine races as the term resumes at Indianapolis on August 7-9 after the summer break.
"I know that the battle will be very hard in the second half of the season, but we have some tracks left where we will be very competitive, where we can fight for more wins," Rossi said.
"Last year I had a very strong second part of the season, and this year we are in an even stronger position."
