Defenseman Josh Manson officially signed an extension with the Anaheim Ducks. Manson agreed to a two-year contract with an undisclosed amount that will make him stay until the 2017-18 NHL season.
The Prince Albert, Saskatchewan native was chosen by the Ducks in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft as the 6th round 160th overall selection. He signed a two-year entry-level contract with the Pacific division team on Mar. 25, 2014. The 23-year-old Canadian had his NHL debut on October 31 at Dallas and scored his first career NHL point (assists) on November 16 against Florida. Manson collected 0-3=3 points with a +1 rating and 31 penalty minutes (PIM) in 28 games for Anaheim last season.
Beginning the season with Anaheim's primary development affiliate in the American Hockey League (AHL, Norfolk), the 6-3, 217-pound defenseman scored 3-9=12 points with 47 PIM in 36 games. He had his Calder Cup Playoffs debut in 2014 in Norfolk, recording one goal and six PIM in 10 games. Mason compiled 4-9=13 points with 73 PIM in 45 career AHL games.
Before getting pro, he also played three seasons with the Northeastern (Hockey East) from 2011-14, where he had 99 career games with the Huskies and a total of 6-15=21 points with a +12 rating with 158 PIM. he ended his collegiate career being included in the Hockey East Second Team All-Star and hailed as the Best Defensive Defenseman after captaining Northeastern to a 19-14-4 record in 2013-14.
