Mick Doohan to join 2015 Race of Champions in November

Mick Doohan set to partake in 2015 Race of Champions
Former Grand Prix motorcycle road racing World Champion Mick Doohan has been confirmed as one of the notable names to partake at the 2015 Race of Champions in November. He will join F1 driver Daniel Ricciardo to form team Australia.

The 50-year-old Gold Coast native is no newbie in the event as he has already taken part in no less than six races of Champions. He won three races in 2012 before eventually losing to Michael Schumacher in the last eight and even reached the semi-finals with V8 Supercar driver Jamie Whincup.

Other Motorsport personalities who already confirmed for the 2015 Race of Champions are as follows:

  • Sebastian Vettel
  • Tom Kristensen
  • Petter Solberg
  • David Coulthard

"I'm delighted to be coming back to the Race Of Champions and it will be great fun to team up with Daniel for Team Australia in the ROC Nations Cup. This is always a really enjoyable event anyway, and it's fantastic to catch up with so many of the world’s best drivers. Of course having spent my life on two wheels I know how hard they are to beat but I’ll give my all and try to give them a fright," said Doohan.

"I actually prefer the stadium-style Race Of Champions circuit like the one we’ll have in London. The longer track in Barbados last year required a lot more feel, and I’m a bit short of experience. But on a short track it’s about hurling the car round the turns quickly so you don’t need to be quite so refined! Either way we all know Daniel never stops smiling so I hope he can forgive this old biker an indiscretion or two…"

The 2015 edition of the Race of Champions will be held on November 20-22 at the former Olympic Stadium at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.
