Washington Nationals outfielder Bryce Harper may have topped the National League in All-Star voting and came second in all of baseball with 25 home runs, but he won't be partaking in the 2015 MLB Home Run Derby on July 13.
According to Mack Zuckerman of CSNWashington.com, Harper said that his father is recovering from a rotator cuff tear and won't be able to pitch to him which led to his decision.
"Not having Dad is a huge issue for me," Harper informed Zuckerman.
At the age of twenty two, Harper is the first player to have recorded 25 homers, 60 RBI and 61 walks prior to the All-Star break.
The 2012 Rookie of the year will have to disappoint a lot of people who are expecting him to compete among the sports' best hitters. The Home Run Derby challenges players on who can hit the most home runs.
Fortunately for Harper's fans, he will still be participating in his third All-Star Game the following day. We got to admire him for putting his family first despite what's at stake.
