Inter Milan look to give San Siro a win as Udinese pay a visit
On May 19, the San Siro will be staging its
final game of the 2012 - 13 Italian Serie A season as the home side
Inter Milan welcome Udinese. This match - up is going to be an exciting
one, to say the least, because on one side, we have the visiting
Bianconeri looking to qualify for the UEFA Europa League and join some
of the best football teams in Europe for the prestigious annual club
competition. On the other we have the Nerazzurri looking to give the
fabled grounds of the San Siro with a semblance of respectability after
virtually desecrating their own field with the way they've been playing
at home.
Yes, Inter Milan heads into the match - up looking to
give their fans something to cheer about for a change. You see, the
Nerazzurri faithful haven't been having fun that much lately whenever
their beloved Black and Blues take their celebrated pitch. Having lost
four of their last five games at the San Siro, Inter Milan know that
they need to win their final face - off at home against Udinese, unless
of course they want to keep looking like a joke to their supporters.
Don't
get me wrong, Inter Milan still are better than most home sides in the
league this season but for a side that won five straight league titles
in an eight - year span to make a joke of themselves with the losses
they've been having at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza recently is simple
unacceptable.
How bad has the Nerazzurri been at home? They suffered
three straight defeats at the San Siro recently, losing to Juventus,
Atalanta, and AS Roma. Inter Milan did bounce back a bit when they
snapped their losing streak at home with a win over Parma but after
losing to Lazio in their most recent scheduled fixture on home soil, it
is more than enough reason to be concerned. And unfortunately for them,
their troubles didn't all come from their own pitch at the San Siro,
believe it or not.
Inter Milan's recent setbacks came, not only from
their home pitch at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza but in all of their games
in general this 2012 - 13 Italian Serie A season, forcing the Black and
Blues to miss European competition in the next football campaign.
This is the first time in the last 15 years that this
unfortunate mess has plagued the proud football franchise, leading many
to believe that Inter Milan head coach Andrea Stramaccioni would be
given the boot soon after a lacklustre campaign. However, despite calls
for the coach's dismissal, Inter Milan president Massimo Moratti is
sticking to his guy for some reason.
''The project will start again with Stramaccioni. You
always ask me whether he'll stay and I always tell you yes,'' Inter
Milan president Massimo Moratti said in an interview with Sky Sport
Italia. ''It is not easy to plan for the future if your computer has a
virus, when you have had as many players injured as we have, but we are
thinking about next season and doing that well.''
When the defiant Inter Milan head honcho was reminded
of his previous coaches like Alberto Zaccheroni and Roberto Mancini
ending up still leaving the San Siro despite his support, Moratti was
quick to point out that those two guys were different. ''Zaccheroni and
Mancini were different situations. Roberto decided to leave and then
what happened then happened,'' the Inter Milan president answered. ''We
needed to look for a new coach even if Mancini had done really well and
we therefore went to Jose Mourinho. But it was Mancini who broke away.''
Inter Milan have really been performing poorly
recently, so much so that it's not only the club's head coach Andrea
Stramaccioni getting the heat but technical director Marco Branca as
well. As expected, the team president was quick to his defence too.
''People look for someone to blame and, right now, they are looking at
him,'' Massimo Moratti said. ''Opinions need to be respected, but
sometimes you don't fully understand the situation from the outside and
that's why certain judgements are made.''
Whatever the case is, the Nerazzurri better get their
act together and bring their top form to their home field on May 20
because they can't expect Udinese to give them any respite, that's for
sure.
Udinese
heads into the contest looking to repeat all the things that worked for
them the last time they played the Black and Blues. You see, the last
time these two sides met, the White - Blacks simply had their way,
scoring three goals all in the second half to beat Inter Milan, 3 - 0,
much to the delight of their fans at the Stadio Friuli back in January.
As Udinese try to secure that ticket for the UEFA
Europa League, Inter Milan will be hard - pressed to slow down what
would definitely be a team on a mission. And in case you didn't get
that, yes, the Nerazzurri could very well be on their way to another
loss at home.
