Real Sociedad resumes Champions League bid against Sevilla
There is much to play for in the few
remaining games that the 2012 - 13 Spanish La Liga season has left.
While the top flight in Spanish football already has its new league
champions crowned in FC Barcelona, nothing is settled as far as the
final spot for next season's UEFA Champions League competition is
concerned. That makes these last few fixtures in the Spanish Primera
Division a bunch of exciting fixtures to witness with these clubs still
in contention for a Champions League seat expected to play their
hardest.
One of these clubs in the running for next season's
Champions League wars is Real Sociedad. In case you didn't know, the La
Real continue to hold on to the fourth and final spot for UEFA's next
showcase of European football champions, as of this writing anyway, but
with some teams breathing down their necks for that No.4 seat, something
tells me that this race for the final Champions League ticket won't be
determined until the final day of this year's campaign, giving us some
exciting battles to the finish.
On May 18, Real Sociedad will pay Sevilla FC a visit
at the Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan and if the La Real plan to hold on
to the final Champions League spot for next season's European
tournament, they can't afford to let up. Because if they lose this one
to Sevilla, they will present the couple of clubs still in pursuit of an
opportunity to compete for the European Cup next season an opportunity
they will surely take advantage of.

Real Sociedad, listed by SBOBET at 4.09 and Bet365 at 3.75
to beat Sevilla FC, head into the face - off at Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan
hoping to continue their strong string of performances on the road as
they look to solidify their spot in the next UEFA Champions League
tournament. Undefeated in eight of their last ten road games, the La
Real did look like the imposing road warriors with wins over Real
Zaragoza, Athletic Bilbao, Atletico Madrid, and Rayo Vallecano,
outscoring those four Spanish football clubs 8 - 2.
Unfortunately for Real Sociedad, they suffered a speed
bump of sorts on the day that they could have padded their lead over
Valencia and Malaga in the La Liga table, the same two sides that
continue to hound the La Real for that fourth and final seat in the UEFA
Champions League next season. You see, Real Sociedad paid the Coliseum
Alfonso Perez a visit looking to take advantage of what should have been
a winnable contest for their side against Getafe, a club just outside
the qualifying spots for some European competition next season. But
instead of a win, the La Real suffered a 2 - 1 loss, giving Valencia,
and maybe Malaga, a shot of playing for the European Cup still.
After scoring the first goal of the match - up, thanks
to Carlos Vela giving Real Sociedad the advantage four minutes after
the opening kickoff, Getafe would level the contest with Pedro Leon
coming up with the equaliser in the 18th minute. The Dark Blues would
follow up on that in the 39th minute with a goal from Abdelaziz Barrada
to earn the 2 - 1 advantage, a lead they will never relinquish for the
rest of the face - off in what became a scoreless second half.
Just so you know, Getafe CF are trying to get to the
final spot for the Europa League wars next season while Real Sociedad
look to capture the fourth seat for the Champions League and
unfortunately for the La Real, Getafe just wanted it more, although they
still have a lot of work to do as they still are in a battle with Real
Betis for that remaining ticket to the annual cup competition.
As
for Real Sociedad, they need to have that fire back on the road when
they pay Sevilla FC a visit at Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan because with them
going up against the mighty Real Madrid back home after their little
visit of the Sevillistas, I reckon this fixture against Sevilla is the
very contest that will give the La Real the best chance to scoring more
points on the La Liga table and distance themselves from their pursuers,
having already beaten this side once last December. That's right,
Sevilla FC, listed by BetVictor and Ladbrokes at 1.80 to beat
Real Sociedad, head into the match - up on May 19 looking to even their
season series to a game apiece after the La Real handed them a 2 - 1
loss at Estadio Anoeta a few months ago.
However, even though Real Sociedad may have already
gotten the best of Sevilla once, that doesn't necessarily mean it will
happen again and with the La Real playing for a spot in the UEFA
Champions League while the Sevillistas don't really have anything to
lose, this home side will definitely be dangerous opponents for the
Champions League hopefuls.
