NBA's
2015-2016 schedule has been released and according to the league's
vice president, this is the best ever schedule they ever produced.
Why? This is because they put forward players' health in creating the
fixtures.
“I
think this is the best schedule that we’ve ever produced,” NBA
senior vice president of basketball operations Kiki VanDeWeghe told
USA TODAY Sports. “We are extremely mindful of player rest,
recuperation and we were able to reduce four games in five nights and
back-to-backs to all-time lows. …
“We
want to be mindful of putting the best product on the floor that we
possibly can. The rigors of an NBA season are tough. Nobody denies
that.”
According
to a report by USA Today Sports, the new NBA schedule reduced
back-to-back games by an average of 2% per team with no franchise
required to play 20 back-to-backs this season. Back to back games
that require long travel have also been lessened from 111 to 85. Four
games in five days are lesser (0.9 per team from 2.3 last season) and
the number of miles traveled per team is 2% lower now.
