Gerardo
Martino shocked the world a month ago when he told media that their
country's best players should just quit on his national duties.
Argentina loss to another finals, this time in Copa America against
Chile last July. This new failure is being blamed by Argentinian fans
to Lionel Messi who is undoubtedly the best talent in the
Argentinian squad. His peers think he did not do enough to give
Argentina the championship trophy.
The
storm of hate towards the Barcelona star made Martino say that maybe,
Messi should just stopped serving his country. He said that if he was
in his Mess's shoes, he would have stopped playing.
"Talk
of him considering retiring from the national team is frustrating but
understandable: if I were Messi, I would have stopped playing for
Argentina a long time ago."
A
month after dropping the shocking statement, Gerardo Martino says he
regrets what was said. He said this as Argentina embarks on a series
of friendly games in which he hopes the La Liga star will
participate.
"I
should not have said that Messi should quit the national team,"
Martino told TyC Sports.
"I
did not speak with Messi before this call-up. I hope he comes."
