Striker Aritz Aduriz who helped Athletic Club gain a commanding 4-0 lead over Barcelona in the Supercopa declared that their recent victory would be his "happiest night" if his squad could take home the trophy on Monday.
The 34-year-old Spaniard made a fantastic hat-trick in the second half of the match. In just a matter of 15 minutes he was able to successfully carry his team on his back.
Aduriz's three goals plus the opener from Mikel San Jose were more than enough to trample the La Liga champions. Now, Ernesto Valverde's side is looking to replicate their performance to secure the title next week.
"We're very pleased, but we know how difficult it is to win at Barcelona," Aduriz said after the game.
"Coming back from four-nil down is almost impossible, but the second leg will still be very difficult.
"If we win the trophy on Monday then tonight may be the happiest night I've ever had with Athletic.
"[However], we can't think that [this result] will be enough at Barca’s stadium.
"[In the second leg], we must be ourselves, do what we've been doing, try to get a goal and be strong defensively.
"All our goals were important. On the pitch, we're always just trying to carry out our philosophy."
