The Manila leg of the FIBA 3x3 World Tour came to an end last Sunday with the reigning world champions NoviSad Al Wahda trampling the Manila North.
After beating last year's winners, Manila West in the semifinals, Manila North tried to beat another champion to gain the top spot. However, the visiting team from UAE proved to be too much for the home team.
Manila North battled it out with domestic key players composed of Calvin Abueva, Vic Manuel, Troy Rosario and Karl Dehesa. They tried to keep up with the taller players, but NoviSad easily pulled apart early in the contest.
Things got more intense when Marko Savic seemed to throw a punch at Dehesa, sparking a confrontation between the two squads. The locals weren't able to build momentum on their side, falling behind, 11-3, and getting into penalty early.
Manila tried to catch up with a five consecutive points, four of which came from Manuel, but it wasn't enough. They were able to come within seven, 15-8, before the penalty came back to bite them.
After a few points from the penalty, NoviSad took a huge 19-8 advantage.
The UAE natives sealed the win with a jumper from Dusan Domovic Bulut, considered the No. 1 3×3 player today, in the post.
Both teams will compete for the FIBA World Tour Final to be held in Abu Dhabi in October.
