Sampdoria got dignity - Zenga

Walter Zenga said that Sampdoria may be out of the Europa League, but the win over Vojvodina “got back our dignity.”

Sampdoria faced a 4-0 first leg defeat in Turin, so much that the Coach cancelled his Twitter account.

Though they were able to bounce back following their 2-0 in Novi Sad, going out at the third preliminary round 4-2 on aggregate.

“We wanted to put in a great performance,” said Zenga said.

“Our objective was to get back our dignity and I think we achieved that aim. We’re disappointed with the second half in Turin, but it taught us a great deal and will give us a push for the future.

“Going out of a Cup competition is never pleasing, but we are a real team made of real men and we can achieve things together.

“This was an important performance and we proved that we can play to the level of Samp. The elimination was down to what happened a week ago in the second half.

“If we had come here with a 2-0 deficit, we’d be playing extra time. This can act as a lesson to help us mature.”
