Bastian Schweinsteiger's position in Bayern Munich is all up to him. According to Bundesliga champion coach Pep Guardiola, the midfielder has the choice whether to stay or leave Bayern.
The 30-year-old German international has been heavily linked with a move to Manchester United. It is believed that he plans to be reunited with manager Louis van Gaal, who led him from being a wide player into a central midfielder during his stint at the Allianz Arena.
"If Schweinsteiger wants to stay here then that's perfect. He's a top player," Guardiola said in a news conference.
"Of course I am planning to work with Basti next season. Basti has to decide.
"Basti has managed a great career. He must decide what he does alone. I told him, the future depends on you."
Schweinsteiger has been with Bayern since 1998 in their youth ranks before being a part of the top tier club in 2002. He has won eight Bundesliga titles and seven DFB-Pokal championships with the Bavarians.
