Mexico have just won the CONCACAF Gold Cup but it seems it is not reason enough for coach Miguel Herrera to celebrate. Fresh from beating Jamaica, 3-1, in the finals held in Philadelphia, the 47-year old manager reportedly is being accused of punching a reporter who was covering their matches for the past three months.
Al-Jazeera writer Juan Arango revealed in his Twitter account that Herrera, who has been coaching Mexico since 2013, was seen 'lawyering up'. Arango said he was informed by his colleagues that the hyper coach has just assaulted a journalist at Philadelphia International Airport.

Sports journalist David Medrano identified the alleged victim as Christian Martinoli who has been critical of Herrera and the team.
Another source confirmed the events to AS Mexico, saying Herrera told Martinoli they should leave the terminal and head to the street to "fix this like it should be fixed."Although Herrera is yet to comment on the news, some fans of the national are growing skeptical of news reports with the fact that most sources are tied to TV Azteca where Martinoli works. Named witness Luis Garcia is the reporter's broadcast partner.
It was not a smooth CONCACAF Gold Cup for Mexico. Their semifinals win against Panama was a controversial with Herrera saying they were not deserving of the win.
"The first [spot kick] was not a penalty but that's not my fault, the fact is we didn't deserve to win the match because we didn't play at all well,” Herrera said. "That's football and it's not ideal. The first wasn't a penalty but the chance fell to us and we made the most of the circumstances (but) we're quite bothered to have won in this manner, playing badly."
