Despite reports suggesting that Valentino Rossi shouldn't have been the winner in the recently concluded Dutch MotoGP, his fellow Yamaha rider Jorge Lorenzo has given his full support for the Italian.
Some claimed that the world championship leader made a shortcut after he dived for the inside across the gravel on the last lap. He and Marc Marquez were neck and neck down the final chicane when the latter forced a contact pushing him outside.
Even if Rossi's eight victory at Assen gave him a 10-point lead over Lorenzo in the standings, the Spaniard defended his rival after reviewing the race.
"It is true, after the race I couldn’t make an answer because I didn’t see it during the race," the 28-year-old said in an interview with motogp.com.
"Now I have seen it a few more times, to be honest, it is true that you cannot go straight and on to the gravel normally, but the contact from Marc was huge.
"Valentino entered the chicane in the first position, so in my opinion he deserved the win this time."
