Once again Nigeria faced a suspension in the FIBA Africa competition. Less than two years ago, five boys in the Under-16 team were removed from the tournament due to over age issues in Benin Republic in 2013, and now same thing had happened to three Nigerian girls in the on-going 2015 FIBA Africa U-16 Women Championship in Antananarivo, Madagascar.
The technical application of the FIBA Internal Regulation who handles players' eligibility found out that Team Nigeria players are guilty of the offense according to the circular signed by the FIBA Africa Secretary General, Alphonse Bile. It also stated that they will be transmitting the file to FIBA Africa executive committee to open a disciplinary case against the listed players and the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF).
Suspended players include Okoli Maureen Chidimma, Daniel Menan Denis and Okoye Ifunanya Rosemary.
Despite, being down to just nine players in their previous game, Adeka Daudu's side still managed to get a win against Egypt, 54-52.
Rita James led her team with 19 points, while Ene Adams added 10 points and 13 rebounds and Onome James- Akinbode cleared the boards with 10 rebounds in addition to her three points. These were enough to give Team Nigeria a win in their opening game.
