With
only one lost in seven of their last eight home games in the English
Premier League, West Ham United certainly look pretty good to make a
lasting impression for their faithful fan base and with the way Reading
FC have been playing lately as they just go through the motions on their
way to relegation to the Football League Championship, the second tier
cup competition in English football, the Hammers shouldn't have a
problem in ending their campaign this year on a high note with what
should be a resounding victory on home soil.
West Ham United, listed by Ladbrokes at 1.62 and SBOBET at 1.63
and to beat the visiting Reading FC on May 19, head into the match -
up riding high with momentum from the impressive home stand that they
managed to engineer as of late with wins over Norwich City, Swansea
City, West Bromwich Albion, and Wigan Athletic. That mean streak, so to
speak, that they managed to put together got them within the top ten of
the Premiership table this year in their first season back in the top
flight of English football.
It's amazing how West Ham's
impressive home stand got them within the top ten of the Premiership
table despite losing at home to Tottenham Hotspur, one of the powerhouse
clubs in the Premier League, and draws in front of their hometown fans
to Queens Park Rangers, another club on its way to relegation,
Manchester United, the newly - crowned champions of English football's
top flight, and Newcastle United, a club that has fallen from grace
considerably this 2012 - 13 English Premier League season.

Oh,
and in case you missed it, West Ham did manage to go goal - for - goal
with the almighty Manchester United Red Devils. Heck, if it wasn't for
Robin van Persie scoring a goal in the 77th minute of the second half
for Man - U, West Ham would've pulled one of the biggest victories they
could've ever had at Boleyn Ground as the Red Devils barely got away
from a loss to the Hammers. This match - up against Manchester United
was the game that put West Ham on the spotlight, proving to the rest of
the English Premier League that they can match whatever it is that Man -
U can throw at them. In fact, the Hammers were so impressive in this
one that they got the Red Devils playing catch - up all game. They just
got lucky that Robin van Persie came up with the equaliser late in the
second half to escape Boleyn Ground with a 2 - 2 draw.
However,
Rob van Persie's leveller isn't without controversy. You see, Man
United's fiery gunner was clearly offside when he got the ball to score
the equaliser for his side. RVP's goal should've been waved off and West
Ham should've been celebrating arguably their biggest home win of the
2012 - 13 English Premier League season. And in case you're wondering,
you can bet your moneymaker that West Ham manager Sam Allardyce agrees.
''The
team has played the best they can play and they have scored one of the
best goals of the season and the assistant referee takes it away from
you,'' West Ham United manager Sam Allardyce said, referring to the
official who missed the call. ''It's a bit difficult to take, that's
their job, it's their job to give the offside decisions that appear in
front of them. This is a blatant one, this is not a position he should
or shouldn't be in. He can see Van Persie is two yards offside, he
should put his flag up, he doesn't.''
''To draw this game by a default goal from Manchester
United is difficult to swallow. A fantastic performance by the team -
they get rubbished for some of the football they play and that's a
disgrace as well. They (officials) shouldn't make those mistakes,'' Sam
Allardyce added. ''If we (players) make those mistakes they're out,
dropped and they're blatant. If you make big decisions and don't get
them right you're out of the team.''

West
Ham United did bounce back at home to give their fans that celebratory
mood again following a victory by beating Wigan Athletic 2 - 0, three
days after hosting the Red Devils. That was their first win at home
after beating West Bromwich Albion a few weeks before and after
Newcastle United paid them a visit to hold them down to a scoreless
affair in their very last contest on their home pitch, I have a feeling
West Ham is due for another victory at Boleyn Ground and playing Reading
FC, a side that's on its way to relegation, points to the Hammers
celebrating on their own turf to close out their season.
Reading FC, listed by Bet3Victor at 6.25 and Bet365 at 5.50
to beat West Ham United, were the champions of the Football League
Championship last season, earning them the automatic promotion to the
top flight in English football. Together with Southampton as the two
clubs that earned the automatic entry to the Premier League, with West
Ham having to earn theirs from a playoff, some were expecting Reading to
have an impact in the top flight. Instead, Reading will return to the
Football League Championship with Southampton still struggling with the
best of the Premiership.
West Ham United, on the other
hand, are surprising powerhouse clubs like Manchester United and on May
19, I have a feeling the Hammers will once again prove why they belong
to stay here with the best in English football. It's a match - up
between Reading, the Football League Championship winners last season,
and West Ham, last year's third placers in English football's second
tier domestic competition. A lot has changed since Reading and West Ham
entered the 2012 - 13 English Premier League season and come game time,
the Hammers will show us just how much things have changed.
