Stamford Bridge ready to errupt
It was an early header for Victor Moses
at the 12th minute that put The Blues in front from a
Frank Lampard assisst to end the first half at 1-0 in favor of
Chelsea. However, Fabian Schar spoiled the contained happiness of The
Blues with a goal from a penalty kick at the dying minutes of the
match at 87th.
As the match draws nearer to its end,
hoping that this will be a 1-1 draw, an injury-time free kick from
David Luiz gave Chelsea a sweet 2-1 victory at St. Jakob Park in
Basel. It was a heartbreaker for Basel for they were unbeaten at home
in this year's Europa League since the loss.
Chelsea were the better team in the
first leg with 19 total shots against 12 from Basel. They were on
target with 6 attempts and they had 14 shots from inside the box
compared to only 5 from the home squad. Petr Cech made a couple of
decent saves, Ivanovic and Terry played solid defensively, Hazard had
a good start of weaving in and out – some of the crucial and
important factors that we should be seeing at the second leg to book
their ticket to Europa League finals.
On the other hand, Yann Sommer should
always be ready to save the attacks coming from the Blues. Marco
Streller should continue to instigate and make plays for his team,
and Valentin Stocker should be a consistent threat down the left-hand
side if they are to steal a victory away from home.
The winner of this semifinals match
would take on the winner of Fenerbahce vs Benfica. This is the best
way to somehow regain respect and admiration for Chelsea if they are
to win Europa League. They have failed to defend their Champions
League crown but this is the way to move on and be stronger for
Rafael Benitez's men. As for FC Basel, preparation and will to win
are some keys to defeat Chelsea at home.
