Major
Soccer League in the United States is one of the top destinations for
many veterans that played many years in Europe's top five leagues.
Many football fans believe the American tournament is a retirement
home for many accomplished players. That might not be the case.
Liverpool
legend Steven Gerrard is one of the latest to join MLS via Los
Angeles Galaxy. If it is him that you will ask, he will say MLS is no
push over league. He even believes his team can go toe to toe with
some English Premier League clubs.
“It's
certainly not the Premier League, but it is striving for that and
hopefully one day it will get there. It is still a level down for me,
but the level has surprised me,” Steven Gerrard said. LA Galaxy's
more notable players are Robbie Keane and Giovani Dos Santos.
“If
we were full strength, we could compete against more than half of the
Premier League on a one-on-one fixture. That gives an ideal of the
level. I think we would still struggle against the top six sides. But
we would be a match for a lot of the teams. That's just trying to get
the people back home to gauge the level. So it has surprised me and
it is better than I thought.”
Other
European league players who are now in MLS are Kaka, David Villa,
Frank Lampard, and Andrea Pirlo.
