A confirmation came from Real Madrid that defender Pepe signed up on a one-year contract extension with the Spanish club.
The deal will glue the Portugal international to the La Liga club until 2017. His previous contract was about to expire at the end of the coming season, but they have decided to offer him an additional year.
The news follows his long-term centre-back partner Sergio Ramos also signing a new contract in Madrid, ending what had been a long summer of speculation that he could be moving to England.
The 32-year-old has been with the Los Blancos since 2007 wherein he had won a Champions League and two La Liga titles.
Pepe is now preparing to begin his ninth season at the Santiago Bernabeu and expected to start Sunday's opener at Sporting Gijon under new coach Rafa Benitez.
