Ongoing rumors about Kevin De Bruyne's status in Wolfsburg are affecting the winger's performance as admitted by the German club's sporting director Klaus Allofs.
The Wolves were recently held to a 1-1 draw with Cologne and a lot of spectators were quick to point out De Bruyne's under the weather performance.
Reports suggested that Manchester City are going to make one last bid for the Belgium international this week, saying that they have already agreed personal terms with the footballer.
Last season's Bundesliga Player of the Year wasn't his usual self in Wolfsburg's first two Bundesliga fixtures, missing a late chance to score a winner against Cologne last weekend.
Before their match against the Billy Goats, coach Dieter Hecking admitted that the 24-year-old is "a bit tired" following a turbulent few weeks, and Allofs fears the uncertainty about his future is having a negative influence.
"It's true, of course, that it's having an effect on us,'' Allofs told Sky Sport Deutschland. "But we must not start to complain.
"I will not accept that as an excuse. We have got to learn how to deal with these disturbances and this uncertainty."
The transfer window closes in just over a week's time and Wolfsburg still have one Bundesliga fixture to play before absolute certainty over De Bruyne's status.
Hecking also did not want to put the blame on the Belgian, saying that he "was at least trying to keep up the tempo."
He added, "there were a few others who didn't necessarily have their best day."
As of writing time, Wolfsburg slip two points behind Bayern Munich and Bayer Leverkusen at the top of the Bundesliga.
