Michel
Platini has been serving as UEFA president since 2007. He is handling
the world's biggest and most subscribed football leagues and for
that, many thinks he is what the sport has been looking for. Platini
confirmed yesterday that he will run in FIFA presidential elections.
However, former candidate for the same post thinks otherwise.
Shortly
after Michel Platini announced his personal and carefully-thought
decision to covet for FIFA president post, FIFA Asia president Prince
Ali bin al-Hussein said the former French footballer is not what the
sport deserves.
“Platini
is not good for Fifa,” said Prince Ali in a statement.
The
prince of Jordan lost his place in FIFA’s executive committee in
May and then lost to outgoing FIFA pres. Sepp Blatter.
“Football’s
fans and players deserve better. Fifa is engulfed in scandal. We must
stop doing business as usual. The practice of backroom,
under-the-table deals must end,” he continued.
As
UEFA president, Michel Platini supported the 6+5 idea which mandates
each club to field at six players eligible to play for the national
team of the club. Before becoming the president of European
football's governing body, he served as member of UEFA Technical
Development Committee from 1988 to 1990 and was once chairman of the
FIFA Technical and Development Committee, while also being
vice-president of the French Football Federation.
