According to trainer Joe Gallagher, world WBA super-bantamweight champion Scott Quigg who will be facing Kiko Martinez this weekend could have Nonito Donaire as his next opponent, providing he wins his upcoming bout.
Quigg will be defending his belt on a huge clash for Sky Sports boxing. Talks about his next match with Carl Frampton is still unclear, and Gallagher is hoping that they could book a fight against Donaire, if Quigg comes out as a victor on Saturday.
"If he gets past Martinez, it'll be Nonito Donaire. It won't be Carl Frampton. The problem with that fight is Barry McGuigan," Gallagher said to Sky Sports.
"They can dress it up all they want but Frampton was offered £1.5m. That's a very good offer and more money than some of Floyd Mayweather Jr's opponents get.
"It's all roads leading to Donaire. That's a huge fight and a name that Quigg is crying out for.
"Scott is in a great place physically and mentally. He said to me at the public workout last week that he wished it was tomorrow night he was fighting.
"No matter which way Kiko Martinez wants the fight to pan out on Saturday night, Scott has an answer for it.
"Scott has had some really top-class sparring in the training camp and he's ready to put on a scintillating performance on Saturday night.
"His attention to detail is unbelievable. He trains, sleeps, eats and that's it. He repeats for three sessions a day. His hunger and desire for knowledge is like someone who is new to the sport.
"He's not a world champion who is resting on his laurels. He wants to face the best and be the best."
