Argentina proved to be too much for the Paraguayans in their recently concluded Copa America semi-final match.
Gerardo Martino's squad produced their best performance in the tournament so far to trample the Los Guaranies 6-1 at the Estadio Municipal Alcaldesa Ester Roa Rebolledo. The brilliant display was led by Lionel Messi, who failed to score, but was able to orchestrate three successful nets.
Just 15 minutes into the game, Marcos Rojo put Argentina ahead followed by a Javier Pastore's goal from Messi's free-kick. Things got worse for Ramon Diaz when Derliz Gonzalez and Roque Santa Cruz, limped off injured.
Santa Cruz was replaced by Lucas Barrios, who gave spark to the team when he scored just before the halftime break.
Paraguay's resiliency has not come into action in the second half as they've been dominated by the Argentines.
A few minutes after the break, Pastore fed Angel Di Maria, who buried a left-foot shot into the corner of the net. He easily doubled his performance with another successful shot with a set-up from Messi.
Sergio Aguero's moment came in the 80th-minute when Di Maria crossed from the left and fed him the ball. Paraguay's bleeding didn't stop from there, as Gonzalo Higuain who came off the bench scored the sixth goal for his country.
Argentina will be facing the hosts Chile at Santiago’s national stadium on Sunday, July 5 04:00 (GMT+8).
