Hey Marvel Universe fans, the long wait is over! Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures finally announced who will be the next Spider-Man is.
The new Spidey role goes to....Tom Holland!
Tom is a 19-year-old British actor who appeared in the television show Wolf Hall, and movies like the Backcountry and In the Heart of the Sea. He has won as the Best Newcomer in the Empire Award and the London Film Critics Circle's Young British Performer of the Year for his role in The Impossible.
After a worldwide and comprehensive search for the new Peter Parker, Tom Rothman of the Sony Motion Pictures was happy to have chosen Holland.
"It's a big day here at Sony. Kevin, Amy and their teams have done an incredible job. The Marvel process is very thorough, and that's why their results are so outstanding," he said.
"I'm confident Spider-Man will be no exception. I've worked with a number of up-and-coming directors who have gone on to be superstars and believe that Jon is just such an outstanding talent.
"For Spidey himself, we saw many terrific young actors, but Tom's screen tests were special. All in all, we are off to a roaring start."
They have also picked Jon Watts as the new director to helm the next Spider-Man film due to hit theaters, IMAX, and 3D on July 28, 2017. Holland will make his Avengers debut in the Captain America: Civil War film next year.
