The television ratings for the NBA Finals clash between the eastern champs Cleveland Cavaliers and west's representatives Golden State Warriors have recorded a new high. Game 2 of the series has generated 18.8 million viewers with a 12.9 overnight Nielsen rating.
ESPN, the sister network of ABC, which produces and televises the games reported that the recent overtime match between the two teams have beat previous records for the first two games of the series in over a decade. It surpassed the 12.3 of Game 2 of the Finals between the Detroit Pistons and Los Angeles Lakers last 2004 and exceeded last year's second game between the San Antonio Spurs and Miami Heat by 26 percent.
The overnight rating for the Game 1 of this year's final edition is also at 12.9. Past data suggests that there are only three games to top this rating in the last five years. Game 7 between the Heat and Spurs in 2013 got 15.3, the Mavericks dispatching the Heat in Game 6 in 2011 had 13.3 and the Game 7 when the Lakers beat the Celtics in 2010 with 15.6
