Manchester City are looking to toughen up their squad with an 11-day training camp in Australia. It was recently announced that they will be playing against their sister club Melbourne City FC before taking on Real Madrid and AS Roma in the International Champions Cup.
Beforehand, the Citizens will be facing Adelaide United for a behind-closed-doors friendly, three days before the Melbourne City clash.
The extra match against the MCFC will take place on Saturday, July 18 at Cbus Super Stadium. Gold coast mayor Tom Tate and Melbourne City chief executive Scott Munn have confirmed this first official match between the two clubs.
Munn explained the reason behind the Gold Coast location, "This is a pre-season camp, the boys are coming in after a break and they need to train in a great environment.
"To have two weeks on the Gold Coast in the middle of the year, it’s really the only place you’re going to get 23, 24 degrees and no rain."
It was reported that the City can't actually play any other matches in Melbourne as restricted in their contract with the International Champions Cup.
