Lewis Hamilton won the Canadian Grand Prix from team mate Nico Rosberg. Hamilton missed out on an almost-certain race victory in Monaco after being told to pit by his Mercedes team.
All of the top drivers managed to hold their places throughout turn one with only Pastor Maldonado losing out at the start to Nico Hulkenberg before the Venezuelan finished ahead of the Force India driver.
Sebastian Vettel quickly moved through the field before taking fifth place for Ferrari, behind teammate Kimi Raikkonen. Raikkonen started from third on the grid, but was eventually beaten to a podium place by Williams of Valtteri Bottas.
Meanwhile, for McLaren it was yet another day to forget as Fernando Alonso retired on lap 44 with an apparent lack of power from the Honda engine.
In the said race, Alonso reacted angrily to instructions from his pit wall to preserve fuel, since the Spaniard was keen to race as hard as possible. On the other hand, Jenson Button was also asked to retire his car on lap 54, as the Woking-based team's difficult season continues.
