Not a week since the 2015 NBA draft, the Los Angeles Lakers are reportedly already planning to trade No. 2 pick D’Angelo Russell.
A lot was left surprised when the Lakers selected the Ohio State star than the big Jahlil Okafor, who was predicted to be chosen as one or two. The Western franchise has drawn some rave reviews for their decision. It was thought that maybe the Lakers know what they were doing and that they've got what they need in Russell.
However, is that even still the case?
Rumors have it that Mitch Kupchak is planning to involve the new recruit in a trade to get DeMarcus Cousins from Sacramento Kings. It's been revealed that the Lakers want the center so bad and are planning to acquire him no matter what.
The Cali side team can't wait for the rookie to ripen to gain a winning record. Yahoo Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski reported that the Kings were asking for 2nd pick, Julius Randle, Jordan Clarkson and future picks in exchange for Cousins.
Is it worth a try? Is loosing the young guns worth what Cousins can bring into the lakeside?
With the glowing reviews Russell got from the Lakers management, is letting him go still a possibility?
“He’s got gifts that you can work really hard and long on and still not acquire those gifts,” Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak told ESPN. “Some of them you’re just born with or somebody sprinkles a little gold dust on you at some point. It’s just there.”
“We really felt the kid was special,” head coach Byron Scott added.
It seems like this rumor will continuously plague us for a while until the teams come up with a solid decision.
