ESPN's Marc Stein has reported that the Los Angeles Lakers are looking to trade for Sacramento King's star DeMarcus Cousins. The Lakers are determined to acquire the forward's services and they have the No. 2 draft pick to bargain and a lot of salary-cap space.
In addition to the 16-time NBA champions, the Orlando Magic, the Boston Celtics and Denver Nuggets have also shown interest in Cousins.
A source close to the Kings has told ESPN's Chris Broussard that owner Vivek Ranadive will not allow a trade involving the big guy. He has given coach George Karl the power to decide the draft picks and make some trades, but it doesn't include a huge move concerning Cousins.
"I have no idea where that's coming from," Ranadive told USA Today Sports on Monday.
"But if you like, you should talk to Vlade, because I know Vlade feels exactly the same way. And I'm deferring to Vlade on everything. We have no interest in moving him.
"From my perspective, it's really simple: We feel that he's a one-of-a-kind player, and we have a group of players right now and we're going to build on it."
This was supported by Kings Vice President Vlade Divac who said that the trade "was not happening, but I would love to do something, a smaller move, before the draft."
It has been rumored that Karl and Cousins have not been in good terms. In fact, they are believed to haven't spoken for months. This has been further highlighted by his comments in mid-April, saying that everyone is tradable. The San Antonio Spurs player is interested in Nuggets point guard Ty Lawson and forward Kenneth Faried.
