Team principal Maurizio Arrivabene believed that their engine's update had delivered.
"If you look at the pace of Seb (Vettel) during the race, it's quite clear we were there," the 58-year old Brescia-born told reporters. "So I think in terms of performance it's fine. But when you get points but not the podium, you cannot say you are satisfied."
"We need to recognise that at the moment they (Mercedes) are stronger than us without thinking that we closed the gap so we can beat them every race," he added. "This is not realistic. But the answer that we got during this weekend, especially with the race of Seb, was quite good."
Ferrari's Kimi Raikkonen ended in the fourth place with a 45.6 seconds difference in winner Lewis Hamilton of Mercedes. His fellow rider Seb Vettel did well to overtake other racing rivals finishing at the fifth spot with an additional 10 points.
Even with these inferior results, Ferrari is still second in the constructor's standings with 180 points to Mercedes with 285. In regards to this, Toto Wolf the current Motorsport director of Mercedes stated that Ferrari has a lot to gain in their latest setbacks.
"My assumption is that we haven't seen the best of Ferrari. So let's not underestimate them. I think that they will bounce back strong in Austria (next week)."
