Chile's Gonzalo Jara will be facing a three-game ban in the Copa America after officials reviewed his gesture that provoked Uruguay's Edinson Cavani in their quarter-final match.
The 29-year-old defender came up behind Cavani in the 63rd-minute of the match and pushed his finger into the Uruguayan's backside. Cavani reacted by raising his hand towards Jara's head and the Chilean feigned an injury and collapsed on the pitch.
The match referee misread the situation and sent off the PSG striker who already had a yellow for complaining in the first half. Chile triumphed over Uruguay 1-0 to advance to the semi-finals for the first time in 16 years.
In a World Cup qualifier in 2013, Luis Suarez suffered the same fate as Cavani when he was also sent off after punching Jara due to a similar provocation.
Mainz sporting director where Jara is currently playing announced that they are prepared to let him leave this summer.
"We do not tolerate that. What makes me more angry than the prod, however, is what happens after. There is nothing I hate more than theatrics," Christian Heidel told Bild.
"He knows that if an offer comes in, he can go."
Chile will be facing Peru in the last four to capture their first ever Copa America title.
