After a disappointing performance at the 2014-2015 Premier League, coach Brendan Rodger's job has been on the line. The reports regarding his sacking further intensified when Liverpool finished their domestic campaign with a 6-1 loss to Stoke City and ended as the 6th seed in the English table.
"I've always said if the owners want me to go, then I go," the 42-year Irish said after the upset.
However, after weeks of doubts and following his meeting with chairman Tom Werner and Fenway Sports Group president Mike Gordon, it was announced that the Reds have decided to give Rodgers yet another chance. He was close to leading the squad to a league title in 2013-2014 season, but suddenly failed to deliver this year and even missed out on a place in the Champions League.
Next season might be the former footballer's last chance to prove his worth. On his meeting with the organization's bosses he agreed on a "comprehensive plan" aimed at ensuring performances and promised that "the group will move forward together".
