Heath Ledger raised the bar in portraying comic book superhero villain. Up to now, his performance as the Joker in 2008 Christopher Nolan movie The Dark Knight resonates among Batman and non-Batman fans. His performance became the barometer of the next comic book movies and the next ones called to wear Joker make up. Unfortunately, Ledger did not live long enough to witness the success of his character and the movie.
Rumors have it that Heath Ledger's dedication on The Joker role is what started his doom. Being a method actor that he is, he embraced the role so much there was even a point he locked himself in a room. He also constantly carried a notebook where he wrote down his journal while preparing for the role and during the filming of the movie.
Was that really the case? Does Joker has something to do with his death?
A clip of a German documentary titled “Too Young to Die: Heath Ledger” surfaced on the internet and this could be the gateway to the mind of Ledger during the time he was working on “The Dark Knight.” The clip includes clippings featuring anarchist Alex from Stanley Kubrick’s A Clockwork Orange, cackling hyena, actual Joker cards from decks, and more.
“He pretty well locked himself up in a hotel, in his apartment, for a month or so, to sort of galvanize the upcoming character in his own mind,” Ledger's father, Kim, said in the clip. “That was typical of Heath on any movie. He would certainly immerse himself in the upcoming character. I think this was just a whole new level.”
