Sebastian Vettel has defended the Ferrari team, claiming that they should not be accountable for the puncture he suffered during the Belgian Grand Prix.
Vettel missed out the potential podium finish following a penultimate lap tyre blow-out on the Kemmel Straight. Vettel claimed he could have been killed had the tyre failure occurred moments earlier through Eau Rouge.
Vettel has backed his team and pinned the blame firmly on Pirelli clarifying that the strategy call was taken between himself and the team, adding that it was never 'risky'.
“Just to make things clear, the team and I decided our strategy for the race together,” he wrote on his personal website.
“I support the team and the team supports me. And this is what makes us a team. Our strategy was never risky, at any point. The team is not to blame.”
