Russia led the title race in the 2015 FIVB women's volleyball World Cup after sweeping Cuba 3-0 for their fifth straight win.
The Russian women beat Cuba 25-19, 25-13, 25-18 in Tokyo to remain as the only unbeaten side at the end of the first round play of the 12-team round robin tournament.
Meanwhile United States defeated Algeria 25-7, 25-2, 25-5 to take their win-loss record to 4-1 and sit in second after the first round.
In the only five-set match of the day, Japan beat Dominican Republic 25-18, 20-25, 30-32, 25-15, 15-13 in Tokyo to rank third after the opening stage of the competition.
The Dominican Republic’s Prisilla Rivera Brens scored excellently, finishing with 26 points. Level with Japan on 12 points are China, who emerged 25-11, 25-18, 25-17 victors against Peru, despite not being able to call on their top spiker, Zhu Ting.
In the other match, Argentina capitalised on an error-ridden performance from Kenya to triumph 25-12, 25-17, 25-20 and claim their second victory, led by Sol Piccolo with 11 points.
There was also a win for Serbia as Tijana Boskovic scored 17 points to spearhead her country's 25-16, 25-19, 25-16 success against South Korea.
