The Nigerian men's basketball team is now a couple of wins away from an automatic bid to the 2016 Olympics in Rio as they trampled Gabon in the 2015 Afrobasket Nations Cup Basketball being held in Tunisia.
An 88-64 victory was more than enough to send the D'Tigers to the semifinal and meet either Senegal or Algeria on Saturday.
A dominant start saw the D'Tigers ahead of their opponents 23-11 in the first quarter and extended their lead by outscoring Gabon 26-14 in the second quarter.
In the third, Nigeria almost doubled Gabon's output by 49-25, and they exerted more pressure to record an all time margin of 72-34. However, the Gabonese tried to fight back in the final 10 minutes and cut the lead by scoring several three-pointers, although not enough to challenge D'Tigers eventual 88-64 victory.
Once again Al-Farouq Aminu carried his team with 17 points in 23 minutes, followed by Michael Gbinije with 15 points from about 22 minutes of play. Meanwhile, the most commanding play came from Alade Aminu, who made nine points and had 10 rebounds.
