Sloane Stephens claimed her first WTA title for the first time after beating Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova of Russia 6-1, 6-2 in the final of the hard-court Citi Open.
''Nothing was rushed. Nothing was given to me. I had to work for everything. It was just nice that all of the hard work and everything I've put into it - now I can say that I have a tournament title,'' Stephens said.
''Everything happens when it's supposed to happen.''
Meanwhile, Kei Nishikori rallied from an early deficit to down home hope John Isner 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 in the Citi Open final.
Isner snatched the opener with a pair of screaming forehand returns in the 10th game, earning the first break of the match. However, Nishikori fought back during the third set Nishikori did not let his foot off the gas, grabbing a break in the third game and holding serve to the finish line.
