Washington Nationals manager Matt Williams has admitted that center fielder Denard Span will have a hip surgery and miss the rest of the season.
The team placed Span on the 15-day disabled list with left hip inflammation. He is scheduled to undergo surgery on , Williams said.
The 31-year-old has already missed 52 games in two stints on the disabled list with back ailments.
He had just returned from the DL to play for Washington however after two days of playing he was held out on the third day. After the game, manager Matt Williams said Span's back issues had resurfaced and could end his season.
In 61 games, Span is batting .301 with five home runs and 22 RBIs. He'll be a free agent at the end of the season.
