Last week, Jori Lehtera had a successful ankle surgery which makes the St. Louis Blues positive of his return before the regular season begins.
The 27-year-old had to undergo a surgery after taking a puck off his ankle during the previous term's last week of the regular season. Now, it will take him 6-8 weeks to fully recover.
"We were hopeful with time the ankle would settle down and be ready," Blues general manager Doug Armstrong said. "[Lehtera] was still sore, and we opted for surgery now so he would be available to us for the regular season."
Playing through his ankle injury, Lehtera joined the Blues in the Western Conference First Round against the Minnesota Wild, which they've lost. He missed one game of the Stanley Cup Playoffs because of a wrist injury he sustained near the end of Game 4.
If Lehtera's recovery takes six weeks, he will most likely to miss the Blues' training camp, which will be held in mid-September and will lasts for 1-2 weeks.
St. Louis will start their 2015-16 campaign on October 8 against the Edmonton Oilers at home. In case, Lehtera fails to recover before this, Robby Fabbri would have the chance to be included in the team roster.
In his first NHL season, Lehtera has a record of 14 goals and 44 points in 75 games during the 20141-15 season.
