Trinidad and Tobago to advance at Gold Cup after win against Cuba

Trinidad and Tobago tops Cuba, will advance at Gold Cup
Trinidad and Tobago will advance into the CONCACAF Gold Cup quarterfinals after defeating Cuba 2-0.

A pair of goals in the first-half from Sheldon Bateau and Andre Boucaud assured the Soca Warriors a back-to-back quarter-final appearance at CONCACAF's championship for the very first time since the new knockout format.

Trinidad and Tobago remain at the top of Group C following their second win, which earned them a total of six points. They were off to a good start with their first five goals of the tournament coming from four different players.

Meanwhile, the Leones del Caribe's problems keep on piling with their latest defection issue. Midfielder Arael Arguellez followed the footsteps of striker Kailen Garcia, who deserted the team before last Thursday's Group C debut against Mexico in Chicago.

Garcia was reported to have turned up in Miami saying that he wants "to live the American dream", according to assistant coach Walter Benitez.

"(Arguellez left) after the match against Mexico. We had got to the hotel, we had dinner and he left," Benitez said.

Cuba's head coach Raul Gonzalez Triana and five players have just returned to the squad ahead of the match against Trinidad and Tobago due to visa issues.

Trinidad and Tobago will be facing current Group C No.2 Mexico on July 16, 08:30 (GMT+8).
