With Iker Casillas ready to leave Real Madrid and join FC Porto, Los Blancos are going to complete the signing of Espanyol goalkeeper Kiko Casilla in the next few hours, according to a report from Cadena COPE. Real Madrid would pay around €3 million for Casilla, per that same report.
This is a surprising move considering that Real Madrid appeared to have the David De Gea transfer saga under control. Louis Van Gaal was reluctant to let De Gea go, but the Spanish keeper was almost certainly going to complete his move to Madrid this summer, so signing Casilla now seems like a panic move unless Keylor Navas is on his way out too.
Although Casilla is a good goalkeeper, most fans were expecting to see much more significant upgrade this summer with the addition of De Gea. If Keylor Navas and Casilla are the team's keepers this season, Real Madrid might need to improve this position next year as well.
