Honda apologises for Stoner's accident, identifies cause of crash

Honda apologises for Stoner accident
Honda identified the cause of Casey Stoner's crash at the Suzuka 8 Hours after completing their investigation. They've found out that a 'throttle malfunction' happened which resulted in Stoner's multiple injuries.

"Honda Racing Corporation has carried out a detailed analysis following the crash of Casey Stoner in last weekend's Suzuka 8 Hour race," Honda Racing Corporation said in a statement.

"Checking the throttle, which is a particular specification for Endurance HRC Factory bikes, and different from the standard throttle used on the Honda CBR1000RR road version, a malfunction was discovered related to the throttle cable.

"This kind of problem hasn't arisen before, however, HRC will cease using this throttle specification and will design a new one to be used for Endurance races.

"HRC would like to apologise to Casey Stoner and thank him for the effort he made in attending the Suzuka 8 Hour event."

The endurance road race was supposedly the two-time world champion's first motorcycle race after officially retiring at the end of 2012. He joined the factory Musashi team with Takumi Takahashi and Michael van der Mark, who were looking to nab their third conservative victory at the event.

Last Sunday, Stoner was leading the race when he suddenly crashed at the Suzuka hairpin and broken his right shoulder blade and fractured his ankle.
