Nevada Boxing Hall of Fame founder and CEO Rich Marotta announced that five-division world champion Floyd Mayweather is selected as the Nevada fighter of the year for the third year in a row.
The recognition came after Mayweather won over Manny Pacquiao in the most expensive fight ever in May and beat Marcos Maidana in their rematch last September.
Mayweather will be accepting the award alongside his uncle Roger Mayweather, a former world champion and one of his longtime trainers, who will also be inducted. The event will be held on August 8 at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas.
"I appreciate the Nevada Boxing Hall of Fame for selecting me as fighter of the year once again," Mayweather said. "My uncle Roger is also being inducted into the Nevada Boxing Hall of Fame. He was a great fighter and is a fantastic trainer who doesn't always receive the credit he deserves. It's nice for him to be recognized by the NVBHOF for his role in boxing for so many years."
Layla McCarter was also announced as the NVBHOF's women fighter of the year while Jarred Santos of the University of Nevada, Reno, is the amateur fighter of the year.
Other boxing personalities who will attend the annual event are Lennox Lewis, Marvelous Marvin Hagler, Felix Trinidad, Marco Antonio Barrera, Eddie Mustafa Muhammad and the Mayweathers.
