In less than 24 hours after the NBA free-agency period began, the Golden State Warriors locked up Draymond Green with a five-year deal reportedly worth $85 million.
The 24-year-old forward, who was drafted 35th overall by the Warriors in 2012 has been a crucial piece in their successful championship campaign. He started in 79 games for the Dubs and has a career high average of 11.7 points, 8.2 rebounds, 3.7 assists, 1.3 blocks, 1.6 steals and 44.3 shooting percentage. His impressive statistic made him a runner-up for the Defensive Player of the Year.
Last playoffs, the former Michigan State player, recorded 13.7 points, 10.1 rebounds and 5.2 assists. He even posted a triple-double in their title clinching win against the Cleveland Cavaliers.
In a video posted in the Bleacher Report, Green spoke of his delight in returning to the Warriors.
"Proud to say that I’ll be a Warrior for at least the next five years," Green said. “It's been a long journey to get to this point. Always trying to overcome the odds, overcome doubters.
"To be in this position, signing back long term with the Warriors is amazing. It's an organization that I love, it's great being a part of, best fans in the NBA, first class organization."
