Bill Foley validates Vegas NHL expansion bid
Potential NHL owner Bill Foley confirmed to CBC/Radio-Canada Sports that he is submitting an expansion bid for Las Vegas.

For some time now, the Sin City has been considered as the front-runner for an expansion. Foley has already secured more than 13,200 season-ticket deposits for a multipurpose arena currently being constructed near the Las Vegas Strip.

Other markets who have expressed interest in an expansion include Seattle and Quebec City. A second team in Toronto is also being pushed.

NHL commissioner Gary Bettman has already claimed that the expansion fee will be worth at least $500 million US.

In order to bring the Nordiques back to Quebec City after they left for Denver in 1995 and since then became the Colorado Avalanche, Quebecor has applied for an NHL expansion franchise.

The National Hockey League has not expanded since adding the last two franchises, Columbus and Minnesota in 2000 to complete the 30 current teams.
