[Match Preview] 2014-15 Germany Bundesliga - Bayern Munchen vs Augsburg 05.09.2015

Seeking Momentum
Crestfallen Bayern Munich are set to end their three-game losing streak when take Augsburg this weekend. It would be the best time to turn things around after a week full of miseries.

Following  the confirmation of their third consecutive Bundesliga title, the Bavarian giants' games went sour. They lost in the DFB-Pokal semifinals to Borussia Dortmund through a penalty shootout. A few days later, they conceded a couple of goals to Bayer Leverkusen at BayArena. And what more? On one of their most important matches, they had missed a lot of major players which resulted in an unstoppable rally by Barcelona in the first leg of their semifinal clash in the Champions League.

The German side's 3-0 loss at Camp Nou left them dejected and in low spirits. Their next match at the Allianz Arena in front of their fans is the best time to gain their momentum back. Defeating the current number one Spanish club is a feat, especially with their huge point advantage. However, the next game would be at their home field and they've been in an almost the situation like what  goalkeeper Manuel Neuer reminded.

"I think we were a little thrown by the first goal. Our glimmer of hope is the game against Porto," the 29 year old footballer told the club's official website.

It was seconded by Bayern's chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, "It doesn't help to lament, we still have the return leg and we're Bayern Munich - sometimes miracles happen for us too.”

FC Augsburg are in a slight disadvantage having won only one of their games against Bayern in their last nine games since 2011. This season, Augsburg had a great surprising start, but their good record collapsed during the second half of the tournament having won only one of their last eight games.

This contest against the Bundesliga champions is significant since the team is still securing the sixth spot of the German ladder in order to qualify for next year's Europa League.

The Bavarians will still be missing Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery, who are both sidelined for injuries while Mitchell Weiser, Javi Martinez and Rico Strieder are expected to rest ahead of their second leg semifinal match against Barca. On the other hand, Markus Weinzierl won't be making any major changes in his line-up.

Game is on May 9, 2015 21:30 (GMT+8)
