[Match Preview] 2014-15 English Premier League - Arsenal vs Sunderland 05.21.2015

The End is Nigh

The Emirates Stadium will be the battlefield between two teams who will be playing for their guaranteed survival. A win for the Gunners will keep them away from a Champions League playoff, secure them the 3rd spot in the Premier League, and keep their runner-ups dream alive. On the other side, a victory for the Black Cats will steer them clear of the relegation zone. A draw would be helpful for both squads, but an additional three points would be most welcome.

Arsenal vs Sunderland

Sunderland are looking to imitate what they've accomplished against Everton at Goodison Park last May 9. They need a similar approach in order to defeat the more favored team.

"We have to make it as hard as possible defensively and be sharp. Maybe we can do something sneaky like we did at Everton," Sunderland's coach Dick Advocaat said.

"We will fight from the beginning to the end.

"Everybody is expecting us to lose and that makes it easier for us."

Arsenal are motivated to return to form and end their domestic league campaign on a high note. They have a great record against the Mackems, having not lost a single game and winning seven of their last ten Premier League matches.

They are looking forward to putting their upsetting second home defeat of the season against Swansea City and their 1-1 draw with the Manchester United behind them. With two games left before their FA Cup final clash against the Aston Villa at Wembley Stadium on May 31, Arsene Wenger is supposed to conveniently rotate his players.

Midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is still expected to sit out with a hamstring injury together with forward Danny Welbeck who suffered a knee injury. Mathieu Debuchy will be back to training on Friday while Laurent Koscielny is a doubt because of man flu.

Advocaat's side will miss the services of Wes Brown who aggravated a knee problem against Everton two weeks ago, Jordi Gomez with a fractured knee cap, and Jack Rodwell who have already recovered from his hamstring injury but still likely to miss out the rest of the season.

Game is on May 21, 02:45 (GMT+8)
