Hellas Verona star Luca Toni could win Serie A Golden Boot award at age of 38

Luca Toni become the Serie A top scorer two days short of his 38th birthday, having scored 21-goals in a season for the sixth time in his career and setting his sights on a second Serie A golden boot award.

Two goals against Parma helped Toni one ahead of Juventus' Carlos Tevez and Inter's Mauro Icardi who currently have 20 goals each.

Next weekend the 37-year-old will celebrates his birthday on Tuesday.

"It would be really satisfying, both for me and for my teammates," the Hellas Verona forward said in quotes picked up by La Gazzetta dello Sport. "It's also down to them that I've scored 21 goals. I'm relaxed and just want to keep winning things.

"Sunday is our final game at home against Juve, one of the strongest sides in Europe -- in fact I want to wish them all the best of luck in the Champions League final."

Toni has netted 41 goals since returning to Serie A football in the twilight of a career which already seemed to be some way down the final straight when he moved to Al-Nasr in 2012.

"I think that might be a bit exaggerated -- [Toni is nearly] 38," he said. "But if he were to win the top-scorer's prize, then it would be an amazing achievement. When you have a player like Luca in your side, then you simply have to play for him."
