Napoli reportedly rejected a €30 million offer from Wolfsburg to acquire winger Dries Mertens.
According to Sky Sport Italia, despite Napoli's warning that they won't be selling Mertens, the Bundesliga side still tried and made a remarkable proposal for the 28-year-old.
Meanwhile, the Naples-based club reaffirmed that they are not interested in releasing their attacking wide man.
The Belgium international was also heavily linked to a move to Inter Milan, but President Aurelio De Laurentiis threatened to sue the player's agent if he had met another club without permission.
Mertens joined Napoli from a two-year stint with Eredivisie's PSV Eindhoven. He was worth €9.5 million, but struggled for regular playing time under Rafa Benitez.
With the arrival of coach Maurizio Sarri, he has made some developments to make more of an impact.
