Maria Sharapova has been forced to pull out of the Cincinnati Masters after picking up a leg injury.
The world number two has been out of action since Wimbledon due to concerns over a problem in her right leg, and she had delayed a return for another week after initially planning to play in the Rogers Cup.
However, Sharapova has decided against taking any risks with her fitness as he looks ahead to the US Open.
"It's a tough decision to make, but I think it's the right decision to be ready for the US Open," she told reporters.

Meanwhile Venus Williams went into a hard-fought win over the Kazak Zarina Dyas, however she wasn't able to make it on the second round with Ana Ivanovic.
“It’s pretty rare that I withdraw or retire, so I just wasn’t able to get out there tonight,” Williams said. “Every match you have to be at your best to win. Just after the warm-up I kind of got a feeling for how the tone of the match might go – how much you can give or can’t give.”
“I want to go home to Florida. It’s just something I’ve got to do and get ready for the Open. I definitely would have liked to have more matches, but I have to use my experience.” she added
